Verified Reviewer |TERRIBLE COMPANY !
- - Customer service is described as poor.
- - They charge full price on credit cards, steer to expensive options, and add extras after the deal.
Absolutely the worst customer service team. I would guess that they are in India from the names I have seen.
They never read emails or notes between the support staff. Never use a credit card with them, as they will automatically charge you full price, and they also move you up to the most expensive options.
Plus, they add extras after your 'deal' has run its course. It is absolutely impossible to get a credit from them if this happens to you.
- Cheap offer bait and switch
- Will charge your credit card without authorization
Preferred solution: I speak with my money, they will never see it again
User's recommendation: stay away !

Verified ReviewerTerrible service dis honest and miss leading
- - Charged after a 'free for a year' promo.
- - Services added without authorization.
- - Canceling relies on AI verification that fails to deliver codes.
ionos billing trap and impossible customer support
i signed up with ionos because they advertised a free for a year promotion. one month later i was charged $14.99. when i checked the account contracts, i found multiple services added that i never selected or approved.
trying to cancel turned into an even bigger problem. their support system routes you through an ai operator that requires identity verification before connecting you to a real agent. the ai gave me two options to verify my identity: receive a code via sms or via email.
neither one worked.
first i chose sms. no code was ever sent. the ai then switched to email verification. again, no code was sent. after i reported that both methods failed, the system simply responded that it could not connect me to an agent and ended the conversation.
so to summarize:
ionos charged me for services i did not authorize, and then locked me out of canceling my account by using a broken verification system that prevents access to human support.
this is an extremely frustrating and suspicious business practice. a company that advertises free services but quietly adds charges and then hides behind automated systems when customers try to cancel should seriously rethink how it treats people.
if you are considering ionos, read the fine print carefully and be prepared for billing surprises and very difficult customer support if you need help.

User's recommendation: Recommendations to Other Customers Before signing up with IONOS, take screenshots of every page during the signup process so you have proof of what services you actually selected. Carefully review the “contracts” section of your account immediately after registering because additional services may appear there. Do not rely on their automated support system if you need help canceling or disputing charges. If verification codes are not sent, you may be locked out of reaching a real agent. Because of this, monitor your bank statements closely after signing up and dispute any unauthorized charges with your bank as soon as possible. If you experience billing issues, document everything including dates, screenshots, and support interactions. This documentation may be necessary if you need to file complaints with consumer protection agencies or request a chargeback through your bank. Overall recommendation: proceed with extreme caution and make sure you fully understand what you are being enrolled in before providing payment information.
Scam Watch- IONOS
- - Deceptive $1/mo signup with higher renewal fees.
- - Hidden contracts, unknown fees, and invoices exist.
- - Cancellation requests ignored; contracts reactivated.
Ionos, Inc. (Website: https://www.ionos.com) is engaging in very bad business practices.
The company has repeatedly misled customers, exploited personal information, and attempted to charge unauthorized fees.
Details of the Scam 1.Deceptive $1/Month ($12/Year) Sign-Up Ionos advertises a $1/month sign-up ($12 per year) as the original price.Upon renewal, the company charges higher, unagreed fees. 2.Creation of Multiple Hidden Contracts and Large Fees Ionos creates multiple contracts from a single customer agreement without consent.Only the original contract is visible in the customer portal, leaving customers unaware of the hidden contracts and their associated fees.Customers are charged unknown and unagreed fees, which can be large and unexpected, for these hidden contracts. This appears to be a deliberate attempt to generate unauthorized revenue. 3.Unauthorized and Hidden RenewalsRenewals do not honor the original $12/year rate.Customers continue to be charged large, unagreed fees for hidden contracts. 4.Do Not Renew / Cancel / Terminate IgnoredCustomers who explicitly cancel or select Do Not Renew are still affected.
Ionos reactivates terminated contracts without consent and attempts to charge customers again. When complaints are made, the company may indicate contracts are canceled, but they are often reactivated the next day. 5.Unauthorized Invoices and Emails Ionos sends large numbers of invoices and notifications for contracts customers never agreed to.This creates pressure on customers to pay for services they did not authorize. 6.Unauthorized Charges and Auto-Pay Exploitation Ionos attempts to charge saved payment methods without permission.Fees are unknown, unagreed, and often much higher than the original $12/year, adding to customer harm. 7.Unauthorized Services and MisrepresentationServices are added without customer agreement.Customers who attempt to cancel are misled into believing all contracts are canceled while additional charges continue.
8.Exploitation of Personal InformationPersonal information is used to create new contracts without knowledge or agreement. This generates hidden fees and unauthorized charges.
9.Scam-Like Customer Support OperationWhen contacting Ionos for resolution, customers are transferred multiple times between Sales, Cancellation, Billing, and Security Teams.Representatives claim the matter is not their responsibility.Refusing escalation, supervisors do not appear and callbacks are not made.Calls are often disconnected without resolution, leaving customers trapped in the system. 10.Customer Harm from ScamFinancial loss due to unauthorized charges far exceeding the original $12/year agreement.Exploitation of personal and payment information.Customers are misled, overwhelmed with unauthorized invoices, and unable to effectively cancel services.

SupporterDamaged a business for a week time
- - Ionos offered a free hosting trial with the domain; support was slow and cancelling was hard.
- - Site and emails were deleted; domain pending deletion.
I was using Ionos for a years with very minimal services, so I recommended them to a friend who needed a website for his business. While purchasing the domain name, Ionos offered a FREE trial on web hosting, so we added it knowing we can cancel anytime.
This mistake will never be forgotten! It took us 3 weeks to get customer service to be availalbe as they are based only in USA, the scheduling of a phone call back has always failed to work, the online chat will not allow cancellation of services and emails with support given the time difference and response time was an absolute nightmare. It took long enough to cross the deadline of the trial so my friend started paying for the unneeded service of hosting and customer support, after several emails have decided I was asking to cancel my domain name and all email accounts associated with it. I wrote 2 emails in response to NOT cancel my domain name and only the hosting service which is not needed.
A representitive replied that the previous email was only to explain what would happen if they do cancel the web hosting, therefore they recommend not cancelling it for the time being. so we accepted that and were willing to keep paying for the unneeded service which was sold as a trial for free and then things got even worse! the next day, the website and all email accounts were completely gone! their support deleted the domain and all email accounts with it!
After several emails and phone calls to USA with their USELESS support, I'm now waiting for 4 days with my domain pending deletion. The business could no longer have the website up and all email accounts were unreachable. Ionos who claimed it's being on top priority to fix the problem have not contacted us for 3 days. Absolutely horrendous customer support.
The embarrasment of dragging my friend to use this company... Keep well away from them!
User's recommendation: Do not engage with this company

SupporterGross negligence. They deleted our business domain by mistake
- - Free hosting trial became a trap.
- - Support deleted the domain and all emails after cancellation, causing four days of downtime.
I have been a long-term Ionos user, but a recent recommendation to a friend has turned into a catastrophe. What started as a "free hosting trial" became an impossible-to-cancel trap.
Due to their support being US-based, scheduling callbacks failed repeatedly, and their chat system refused to handle cancellations.
The situation escalated from poor service to gross negligence. After explicitly requesting to cancel only the hosting trial, Ionos support misunderstood and deleted the entire domain and all associated email accounts. Despite being told this was a "top priority" fix, the business has been offline for four days with no updates.
This has caused significant professional damage and embarrassment. Avoid Ionos at all costs if you value your business uptime.

Verified ReviewerEmail service cancelled
Ionos cancelled my email service for an unpaid amount of $4.00. They failed to notify me about the $4.00 debt but, were ready to cancel my email service.
Imagine that - $4.00. Ridiculous! Ionos must be really hurting financially. Ionos used to be better.
Now, they do not care about customers at all.
They just lost me. Be
User's recommendation: Beware! Ionos is so cheap, it will hose your email for a mere $4 unpaid bill.

Verified Reviewer |Hidden not approved charges
- - Ionos charged unexpected charges Nov 2024–Apr for hosting, security, email, AI.
- - Two unapproved contracts; cancellations fail; charges persist.
I received a bill for $700 in April from Ionos, which stemmed from a challenge in their billing system. From November 2024 to April, it exposed several charges attached to the domain names.
I purchased this, which included web hosting packages and two contracts that I did not approve, as well as security charges. Email charges and AI charges were all being paid by automatic billing. I called and spent several hours canceling and investigating what all these charges were. Still, to this day, in October 2025, I'm receiving similar charges.
It does say that you can cancel any product; however, finding the product is a challenge. You can supposedly do this yourself online. I did this online and also did this with customer service. However, when I got to cancel an entire hosting package I did not approve of, I had to go to a different department.
I went to this department several times, having hours of conversation and hours of spreadsheets. I would not recommend this company to anyone at any point. I've taken my credit card away, as still today, I'm being charged for things I canceled.
I've spelled it out: non-transparency and hidden fees, along with sales tactics that make this company extremely devious. Beware.

Verified ReviewerVery Bad Service
- - IONOS phone support hangs up; no response.
- - Card charged on Jan 8; order not confirmed after 12 days and the domain was taken.
Hi, the reason I am sending this review is because I have looked for every possible means to reach ionos, even tried calling them on +1-48*-***-****, but the call keeps getting hung up.
On January 08, I bought joomla hosting and registered the domain name; graciousweb.com with it via ionos.com. In your order confirmation email IONOS sent to me, they promised to confirm the order within 48hours.
My customer ID is: 30963****
Not only did they not confirm the order, even after debiting my card, they went silent and did nothing about it.
Today makes 12days after I placed my order and received order confirmation, still no response from IONOS.
They have breached their terms of agreement and cost me this precious domain name, as I just discovered that someone else had taken it as at January 17.
In order words, IONOS has cost me my company name and branding. And I cannot let that slide.
When I wrote to them to express my frustration and demand a compensation on January 18, they did not even bother to get back to be.
I believe this is grounds for a serious lawsuit against IONOS, which I would not rule out, if they don't handle this in the most amicable manner.
Preferred solution: IONOS should get to me and discuss compensation for the domain name loss that occured as a result of their dishonesty
User's recommendation: Think hard before dealing with them

- - Charged a $13 holding/reservation fee to secure payment; max order $33.
- - Customer service gave a runaround; reviewer calls it fraudulent.
I've already signed up with a different company spaceship their prices were better anyways
Lol definitely in theory The exact same charge each time.
Tried to talk to customer service and billing service about it and they just gave me the runaround about how it's completely necessary for the holding fee on there because blah blah blah use a different card nope not going to use a credit card so they can overcharge me and get away with it.
IMHO completely fraudulent and *** Don't trust them. Avoid like the plague.
- Directly tried to rip me off for over 70 bucks

Verified ReviewerAbsolutely Awful Experience – Stay Far Away from IONOS
- - Customer service is poor and billing is questionable.
- - Promised 55% discount through May 2025, but 22 domains weren't discounted.
Ive been in the web business for a long time and I can confidently say IONOS is one of the worst hosting companies Ive ever dealt with. Their customer service is atrocious, and their billing practices are borderline fraudulent.
I called to let them know I was moving my domains elsewhere because their renewal prices were just too high.
That should have been the end of it. But to try and keep my business, they offered me a 55% discount on domain renewals through May 2025. Sounded decentso I stayed.
Fast forward to this week: I receive an invoice thats wildly overcharged. Turns out, they never applied the discount to 22 of my domain names, and the same overcharge happened on the previous invoice toowhich I only noticed after digging.
I called immediatelyAFTER I had already paidand was told, Sorry, we can only offer you 40% now, not the 55% we promised. Total bait and switch.
To make matters worse, they billed me for virus protection I never purchased, and now refuse to refund that money as well.
I spent over four hours on the phone trying to get a straight answer, was hung up on more than a dozen times, and when someone did answer, they were rude and dismissive. IONOS is happy to take your money but wont honor their word, their invoices, or basic customer respect.
Yes, they might be cheap when you first sign up, but once youre with them for a while, theyll treat you like garbage. Avoid this company at all costs.
Im now being forced to file a legal claim just to be treated fairly. Absolutely disgusting business practices.
- Customer service is disrespectful
- You get blown off
- Lie to keep your business then charge you
Preferred solution: Nothing. I am taking them to court for wasted time and damages they caused with their lies.

Verified ReviewerNo Administrator for your Exchange server in IONOS.CO.UK
- - Mailbox access has not been provided since February.
- - Responses have been unhelpful and unclear.
- - I demand action to recover my data.
Dear Sir/Madam,
Your offices in the U.K. have been unable to provide me with access to my mailbox since the beginning of February. All my queries and demands for access have been met with half answers by people who clearly don't know who dealt with the case before them, or understand how an Exchange server works. They go and ask a single question from probably whoever is on call at the time and provide me with totally useless information.
You have a contract with me to provide me with service, for more than twenty years. I am a Microsoft Certified Engineer, and I have written a review of the state of your services in this regard. I have wasted enough time, and I have given whoever is left in the U.K. their last warning.
Of course, the review will be global since I had someone from the U.S. calling me too. She couldn't do anything. Therefore, I assume things are really bad down there. It looks like no one is in charge, and you are or have called in the receivers.
I need my data before someone turns the whole thing off, including the electricity to your offices.
Please act.
